Schrodinger's Girl

Director's Statement

One night towards the end of 2002, I was reading a pop-science book on quantum physics when the phrase "Schrödinger's Girl" appeared in my head and wouldn't leave. I knew I was going to have to tell a story about this girl, a girl both alive and dead, a girl who could walk through walls. Of course, the script itself went through many revisions and rewrites, but at its core it is still a story about individuality versus conformity, about human freedom. I'm quite fond of a challenge, so I designed the film to be almost impossible to make on a shoestring budget. We have three very different worlds, each actor plays three different characters, and there are over 300 visual effects shots in the movie. It has become a cliché to suggest that modern technology has put almost infinite power into the hands of independent filmmakers; I wanted to put that notion to the test. I wanted to prove that a small group of talented individuals could create a science fiction epic for virtually no money. I'm happy with the result.

The Cast

Rebecca / Sarah / Anastasia :: Abigail Tarttelin

Abigail is a London-based stage and screen actress. She trained with the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain and the New York Film Academy at The National French Film School, in Paris. Abigail's film debut was as Fenella, a supporting character in 'Philip Pullman's The Butterfly Tattoo', and she has followed this with the lead roles in feature films 'Schrodinger's Girl' and 'Denouement'. Abigail's theatre credits include; the lead role of Polly 'Spud' Jones in The National Youth Theatre's 'Sillybus' at the Lowry Theatre, and Rosie in 'Cider with Rosie', at the Riverhead Theatre.

2009 looks to be a good year for Abigail, who already has two feature films lined up for production, launches a new website at www.abigailtarttelin.com in February, and was featured as a 'One To Watch' in industry publication Moviescope Magazine in January.

Matthew / Matt / Mateus :: Damian Hayes

Damian Hayes is a musician, artist, and graphic designer in addition to being an actor. Not only did he play three roles in Schrödinger’s Girl, he also designed a number of the VFX shots. His band, Mudtusk, recently released their first album, “A Howl In A Gale”. He is the son of famed British actor Melvin Hayes.

Dave / David / Dmitri :: Al Convy

Al Convy is an actor, former TV presenter and musician, originally from Scotland and now residing in the West Midlands. Al switched focus from hosting to acting around three years ago when he landed the role of Wolfgang in the feature thriller ‘Lycanthropy’. Since then he has starred in a number of other features and shorts alongside people like Nick Moran, Neil Pearson, George Calil, Mike Reid, Andria Corr and David Bradley. Al landed the role of Orlok in the upcoming feature “Blood Actually” after starring in Huw Bowen’s ‘Schrodinger’s Giri (2008) where he played the multiple roles of Dave, David, Dmitri and Dr Gibson. Charming, charismatic and calculated performances are edging him ever closer to hitting the elusive big time!

Voice of Q :: Amelia Tyler

Amelia started small. Literally. She did her first voiceover at the tender age of five, quickly went on to appear in TV shows and train with the National Youth Theatre, and at 17 became ITV's youngest ever continuity announcer, hosting kids' show CITV five days a week. Since then she's worked in almost every area of the industry from cartoons to global ad campaigns. She has been the female voice of the Sci-Fi Channel since 2005 and other clients include Sky, E4, Disney, The Brit Awards, The MOBO Awards and Britain's Next Top Model. In 2008 alone she appeared in five feature films, plus several award-winning shorts. She is also a screenwriter, working alongside author/director (and Schrödinger's Girl Line Producer!) Paul Hardy – their first co-written feature film “Blood Actually” goes into production in Winter 2009.
